From Heathrow to Waterloo

We waited to get off the plane (row 41), and then we waited at least an hour to get through  passport control. We were entertained by a cute baby while we were waiting to get off the plane and then another cute little guy in a stroller while we snaked through the line at Heathrow. I wonder how much longer the lines will be after Brexit kicks in....

Our moment of zen for the day came when we boarded the Heathrow express to Paddington or, as our
“son” Axel says, the most expensive 15 minute ride anywhere.

We arrived at Paddington, added money onto our Oyster cards, and headed to Waterloo via the Bakerloo line.

Using the most circuitous route possible, we then walked from the station to our hotel. There was a roundabout involved with only one pedestrian crossing—we were literally across the street from our hotel, but we couldn’t get there — easily. No wonder Napoleon lost at Waterloo....

After checking in to our room, we took naps until about 5:00pm. The sky looked ominous, but no rain was predicted, so we sauntered  out, no umbrellas in hand, to get some dinner. As we walked out the front of the hotel, we realized that an entrance to the Waterloo station was actually really close. We strolled around the area, checking out the many restaurants nearby. We ended up at Troia, a place that I had seen online before we left. The host was wearing a top hat and tails in a circu s-y way. We
ordered fried Brie with raspberry sauce and lamb shish kebab. Sooooo delicious.
Bob enjoyed the Biro.

Pretty lights.
More pretty stuff.
We then walked to Southbank and discovered a festival —-the Underbelly.  We walked around and found a seat and had some good people-watching along with some Pravha and Blue Moon beers.

After our stop there, we walked towards our hotel in search of some Bailey’s. On the way we passed the Eye.

We stopped at a place we’d passed before — the Locale. Bob had local beer, and I had my Bailey’s plus some super chocolate milk.  One of the guys was mixing something, which turned out to be chocolate milk.  He offered me a taste that turned into a glass that Bob and I shared.  Fun evening!
